Itโ€™s always exciting to see a neighborhoodโ€™s merchants and residents come together for their own unified festival, but it adds a new layer when that celebration is a decades-old tradition. Exhibit A: The Abell Community Street Fair, which today marks its 45th year of raising money for the neighborhoodโ€™s improvement association.

Overcast weather be damned, the event should bring hundreds out to enjoy more than a dozen bands and artists playing live (among them indie rock outfits James & the Giant Peach and Cora Sone) on two stages, art vendors, a crab feast, a clothing swap, a silent auction and free books courtesy of The Book Thing. Another staple happening: The Childrenโ€™s Parade, which sends the kiddos out marching this year to a theme of bugs (more cleverly dubbed โ€œAbell A-buzz!โ€).

And of course, there will be beer from Peabody Heights, wine from The Wine Source and food from Farm to Charm, One Day Cafรฉ and Wilde Thyme, among othersโ€”not to mention local bakers selling their sweets in a bake sale.

Hereโ€™s a map to guide you through all of the festivities.
