Lupa, the Roman trattoria located on Lake Kittamaqundi in Columbia, will shut down this weekend after Saturdayโ€™s dinner service.

Just over a year old, Lupa (which translates to โ€œshe-wolfโ€ in Italian) has fast become a crowd pleaser in Howard County with its daily handmade pastas, Foccaccia pizza, wine selection and gelato and espresso offerings.

But Tony Foreman, who co-owns the eatery with newly minted James Beard Award semifinalist (and eight-time finalist) Cindy Wolf, divulged in a statement that Lupaโ€™s investors โ€œare no longer interested in funding the restaurant.โ€

He offered thanks to the short-lived conceptโ€™s customers, saying, โ€œWe love Lupa and will miss Howard County and all of our regular guests.โ€

Foreman Wolf, which operates a handful of popular Baltimore restaurants like Charleston and Cinghiale in Harbor East, Bar Vasquez in Fells Point, and Petit Louis Bistro and Johnnyโ€™s in Roland Park, has controlled the Lupa space since 2014. For most of that time, it served as a second Petit Louis location, but the restaurant group switched out its French cuisine for Italian fare in January 2018.

All of Lupaโ€™s full-time staff will be offered positions at other Foreman Wolf locations, according to a release.

Lupa is skipping brunch before the final dinner service Saturday, per a separate email.
