So long, Wharf Rat.

Owners have announced that Saturday November 6 will be the last day of operation for the popular bar and restaurant at 801-803 South Ann Street in Fells Point, a landmark dating from the early- to mid-1700s.

“Last Call! Help us drain the kegs, empty the coolers, and make some final Wharf Rat memories,” says a message posted today on Facebook, announcing the final days of business.

The closing comes almost exactly month after a mystery buyer bid $941,600 on October 7 to acquire the bar and restaurant, in an online auction by Alex Cooper Auctioneers. The auction, which included a liquor license and all furniture and equipment, was billed as an “owner retirement sale” on behalf of the Oliver family, operators since 1987.

Jared Block of Alex Cooper said in October that he couldn’t disclose who bought the business, but he described the buyer as a “successful local restaurateur” who has another establishment close to Fells Point.

Block said the buyer’s identity would be made public once the sale is complete and a deed is recorded, if not sooner. As of last week, a representative for the city’s liquor board said the agency had not received an application to transfer the existing beer, wine and liquor license — another way to find out who the buyer is.
