The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture plans to close for two weeks, starting Wednesday, in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.
“The number one priority for the staff of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum is to ensure that we are doing our part to limit the risk of COVID-19 exposure, not only to ourselves but also to our families and the communities we serve, during this holiday season,” states a message on the museum’s website.
“As such, out of an abundance of caution in light of the current surge in COVID cases, the Lewis Museum building will be closed to the public from Wednesday, December 22, 2021, through Tuesday, January 4, 2022. The building will reopen on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.”
In addition, the museum said the Interfaith Breakfast honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., scheduled for Jan. 15 and sponsored in partnership with the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, has been postponed.
The Lewis museum’s announcement came one day after leaders of the Baltimore Museum of Art said it will close until Dec. 29 due to the surge in COVID cases.
