Baltimore-based podcast The Stoop Storytelling Series has joined WYPR’s podcasting platform, Your Public Studios.
Launched in 2006, The Stoop Storytelling Series set out to showcase the true and compelling stories of “ordinary” Baltimore residents through live shows. In 2015, hosts Jessica Henkin and Laura Wexler expanded the series to include a podcast.
Over 2,500 people have shared their stories since the series’ inception, including Congressman Elijah Cummings, The Wire creator David Simon, activist DeRay Mckesson, and Senator Barbara Mikulski. To-date, the podcast has 1.5 million downloads across its streaming platforms.
“The Stoop Storytelling Series podcast has a long track record and loyal listenership, and we are excited to welcome Jessica and Laura and all their fans into the Your Public Radio family,” stated Your Public Radio President and CEO LaFontaine E. Oliver.
“We at WYPR work each day to share the stories of our local Baltimore community with our listeners. In bringing The Stoop in-house to Your Public Studios, we will be able to tell even more of those first-person accounts.”
Episodes of The Stoop Storytelling Series will continue to release on a bi-weekly basis under WPYR, and over 100 existing episodes of the podcast will be housed by Your Public Studios. Maureen Harvie, senior producer of WYPR’s On the Record, will help to produce new episodes of The Stoop Storytelling Series.
This is not the first time The Stoop Storytelling Series has partnered with WPR. On the Record features a dedicated Stoop Storytelling segment, which airs on Fridays at 9:50 a.m.
“We’re delighted to formalize what has already been a wonderful partnership with Your Public Radio,” said Stoop Storytelling host Laura Wexler. “We also encourage Your Public Radio listeners to share their stories on The Stoop stage. After all, our motto is: ‘Everyone has a story. What’s yours?’”
Your Public Studios is home to all podcasts produced by WYPR, as well as a number of local, independently-produced shows. New episodes of the podcast can be listened to on WYPR’s radio station, 88.1FM, any major podcast platform, or streamed live on WYPR’s website.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly reported that WYPR’s podcasting platform Your Public Studios had acquired The Stoop Storytelling Series podcast. The Stoop podcast has joined the WYPR podcast platform, but no acquisition was involved. The story has been corrected.
