McDonogh School’s Legacy Campaign made school history by raising $96.6 million, exceeding its fundraising goal of $90 million.

The Legacy Campaign was publicly launched in 2023 and is the most successful capital campaign in McDonogh’s history. The previous campaign ended in 2010 and raised $75 million. The current amount is also the largest raised by an independent school in the Baltimore area, according to a news release.

“Surpassing our goal of $90 million is a tremendous accomplishment and I am proud of the unwavering support from our community,” said David J. Farace (’87), McDonogh’s Head of School. “There is no doubt that McDonogh is positioned to build on its foundation of excellence and provide the best possible educational experience for years to come.”

The fundraising haul came from gifts and commitments from more than 6,100 parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. The campaign funded the construction of a state-of-the-art Middle School building, added to the school’s endowment supporting students, teachers and curriculum, and increased the annual fund by more than 10%.

McDonogh trustees Robert Bavar (’90) and Samuel Wright (’64) co-chaired the Legacy Campaign.

“When we embarked on this campaign, we set an ambitious goal, aiming not just to meet the needs of today but to sustain educational excellence for future generations,” Wright said. “`We have exceeded all expectations and realized a vision that will shape our path forward.”

McDonogh is an independent, coeducational day and five-day boarding school enrolling students from prekindergarten through twelfth grade. It’s 800-acre campus includes a 10-acre farm where students experience hands-on learning and harvest produce for the Maryland Food Bank. The school’s 20 buses serve Baltimore City and surrounding counties. Learn more about the school by clicking this link.
