Harford County introduced an improved and more reliable emergency alert system with real-time notifications.
HarfordCoMD Alerts gives residents alerts about severe weather, major traffic issues, localized crimes, missing people, infrastructure outages and others. Residents may also opt to receive non-emergency alerts such as public events, street sweeping and more.
Every resident in the county’s old Blackboard Connect system was automatically transferred into the new system.
“Public safety is the top priority of my administration, and this new system will enhance our ability to give citizens timely and accurate information to protect themselves and their loved ones when disaster strikes,” said County Executive Bob Cassilly. “I encourage everyone to register with HarfordCoMD Alerts and stay safe.”

The county recommends registering for the enhanced system even if you were already in the old system. Residents will not be sent alerts to phone numbers registered more than once, and you can register family members who may not be able to register on their own. The new alert system follows a summer of severe weather across Maryland, including a 13-year-old in Mount Airy who drowned last week.

This new emergency alert system sounds like a vital upgrade for community safety
