So long, Mount Vernon Marketplace.

Operators of the 10-year-old food hall at 520 Park Ave. announced on social media that the marketplace will close permanently at the end of the month.

“We are saddened to announce that, after 10 years, the Mount Vernon Marketplace will be closing its doors on August 31st,” their message said. “Like many businesses, we faced significant challenges in the wake of COVID, including changes in work schedules, a dramatic loss of daytime foot traffic, and increased operating costs. Despite our best efforts over the past few years, we were unable to recover to economically sustainable pre-pandemic levels.”

Located at the base of a former Hochschild, Kohn & Co. warehouse with apartments above, the marketplace had more than a dozen food vendors after it opened in October of 2015, but the number has dropped to just a handful in recent months.

Owners of the building, an entity listed in land records as 520 Park Avenue Business Trust, said in the closing announcement that they won’t let the space remain vacant.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to our tenants, customers, and the entire Mount Vernon community for their support and the wonderful memories we’ve shared together,” they said. “While this chapter is coming to a close, we remain committed to the community and are actively exploring new ways to reimagine and reactivate the space for the future.”
