What does pre-retirement look like, exactly? A lot of pre-fishing and pre-doting on your grandkids? According to Forbes, at least, Baby Boomers in their pre-retirement phase want cities where they can lead an active social life while also saving up money for later. The ideal city would have plenty of jobs (for now), low cost of living (so youโre not throwing all your money away on $80,000 parking spots), lots of available health care (because even if youโre not old, youโre pre-old), and lots of social activities (to keep things interesting). Sounds kind of like, well, Baltimore!
Indeed, Forbes has deemed the Baltimore-Towson metro area one of the ten best cities in the country to pre-retire, citing our access to world-class health care at Johns Hopkins and the fact that we have 511 physicians for every 100,000 residents โ way, way above the national average. In between trips to the doctor, Forbes recommends taking enrichment classes at the Community College of Baltimore, or enjoying the gratis cultural activities that are a part of Free Fall Baltimore.
Nearly a quarter of Baltimore residents are in the prime pre-retirement age group (50-70); weโre sure theyโre happy to hear theyโve landed in the right spot.
