Back in June, the Baltimore Sun reported that the FBI was closing its case on the yet-unsolved 1963 murder of Baltimore postal worker William Lewis Moore. Moore was shot and killed on his one-march from Chattanooga, Tenn., to Jackson, Miss., to personally deliver a request to the governor of Mississippi to end his support for racial segregation. On his walk, he wore a sandwich sign that read โ€œEqual Rights for All.โ€

The story so affected Baltimore County Public Schools teacher Joe DeFilippo wrote a song commemorating Mooreโ€™s sacrifice. He recorded it with the R.J. Philips Band.

DeFilippo hopes his song, โ€œ400 Miles,โ€ will get โ€œthe public familiar with the heroism and commitment of William Moore, and those like him.โ€

It certainly worked on me! This is the first I had heard about him.
