A few days ago, the Google-owned online video platform YouTube made a seriously aggressive move against record labels that use the site for promotion (even as YouTubeโ€™s copyright-infringement abetting has been a headache for labels generally). YouTube offered their brand new Spotify-like pay service to record labels with an ultimatum: Sign up, or have your artistsโ€™ videos blacklisted from the site.

Apparently, the major labels generally went for it, but a couple big indies, Domino among them, refused. YouTubeโ€™s head of content said the video blocking would commence โ€œin a matter of days.โ€ And that puts the videos of Baltimoreโ€™s Domino acts Dan Deacon and Animal Collective, in the line of fire!

Susan Busch at Domino declined to comment on the โ€œongoing discussion,โ€ except to say that label remains โ€œvery hopefulโ€ that a resolution will be arrived at in the coming days.
