Sly move, Kansas City.
Sly move, Kansas City.

When street signs start coming down, you know itโ€™s on. Kansas City Mayor Sly James lived up to his (first) name by changing the name of his cityโ€™s Baltimore Ave. to Royals Ave. ahead of tonightโ€™s ALCS opener.

The name change is billed as temporary, but itโ€™s easy to see Lorde getting in on some sort of naming rights deal to make the whole thing permanent.

Now would be the time for the Baltimore brass to make a move in return, but no American city โ€” let alone Baltimore โ€” has a street named Kansas City. However, Yahoo! News kindly points out that our fair mayor could change the name of Mt. Royal Ave. The playoffs are when leaders step up, SRB.

UPDATE: It appears Baltimore has responded with an Orioles Way sign on Mt. Royal Ave. Apparently, weโ€™re not ready to switch the street names altogether. After all, what would the Mt. Royal Tavern do?

And it appears SRB wants to up the ante. In a video, she named terms of an ALCS bet with Sly that included a donation of physical fitness materials, a requirement that Kansas City light its City Hall orange until the World Series and a massive tray of BBQ. If the Royals win the series, Baltimore will have to send some blue crab cakes to James, travel to Kansas City to read to local students and post an online video singing a parody of that Lorde song.

Hereโ€™s SRBโ€™s challenge:
