Rawlings-Blake

For the second time this summer, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake went on the radio to hold forth on the issues of the day. SRB found that being a caller on 98 Rockโ€™s morning show is a way to get her message out. (The Baltimore Sun has the clip.)

While itโ€™s just as interesting to hear 98 Rock DJs grill the mayor with thoughtful questions then pivot back to the usual commentary, the attention was on the mayorโ€™s statements. Rawlings-Blake was asked directly if it bothers her that people are calling on her to resign amid a spike in murders following the springโ€™s unrest.

โ€œWeโ€™re working on it everyday looking for new resources to bring to [the crime] fight and weโ€™re going to continue to do that. But Iโ€™m not going to give up. Iโ€™m not going to resign. Thatโ€™s not what Baltimoreans do. When times get tough we hunker down and get busy and thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m doing.โ€

Rawlings-Blake was also asked about Gov. Larry Hoganโ€™s decision to close the Baltimore City Detention Center menโ€™s jail.

โ€œWhile I certainly wouldโ€™ve appreciated a little more heads up, I cert donโ€™t expect the governor to ask me if itโ€™s okay for him to take action as a governor,โ€ she said.
