Larry Hogan is โ100-percent cancer free.โ The Maryland governor made the announcement at a press conference on Monday afternoon, shortly after receiving the results of a PET scan at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Hogan made the shock announcement that he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkins lymphoma on June 22, which was 147 days ago. He finished chemotherapy treatments on the 60 tumors in October. โIn the past five months, Iโve completed 30 days of chemotherapy, three surgeries, four spinal taps, and countless scans, drug therapies, and other procedures,โ he said Monday.
Mondayโs results do not mean he is cured, but he is now in complete remission.
The diagnosis came less than a year after the Republicanโs surprise victory over Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown in the 2015 election, and less than two months after the Baltimore riots.
During treatment, the #HoganStrong call of support trended throughout the state, even making an appearance in a corn maze. After losing his hair, Hogan showed his pride and sense of humor were still intact. The governor received also received a blessing on behalf of all cancer patients from Pope Francis during the pontiffโs U.S. visit.
In the meantime, Hogan continued working. In Baltimore alone, he axed the Red Line and closed the cityโs menโs jail.
