Your neighborhood poker game is now safe from the authorities.

As he continues to sign bills that were passed during the annual legislative session, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan approved a measure that makes it legal to host poker games at home or accept the invite of a friend who is hostingโ€“ as long as youโ€™re 21. Previously, a home poker game couldโ€™ve landed players up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to CardPlayer, the bill passed unanimously through both houses of the General Assembly.

However, since poker was involved, there was some upping of the ante. One proposal called for the limit of the gameโ€™s stakes to be $500, but was later changed to $1,000. Del. Kirill Reznik, who sponsored the bill, showed his hand early by at first proposing a $2,000 limit.
