The Walters Art Museum isn’t offering outdoor concerts for the summer, but they’re still using the fair weather months to offer music in an out-of-the-ordinary context.
Starting Thursday, June 23, ART/SOUND/NOW runs every fourth Thursday throughout the summer. Setting up right in the galleries, it’s a new way to spotlight some of the museum’s works that have been around for a while, like the Dutch Age of Exploration and Egyptian works. Here’s the full lineup:
TURNTABLES & INTERMEDIA SOUNDS
Date: June 23
- Wendel Patrick pairs turntables and electronics with ancient Greek religion.
- Mark Brown and Carrie Fucile will use found items to trace the Dutch Age of Exploration in the 1600s.
DESTRUCTION & CULTURE
Date: July 28
- Amy Reid brings her music to ancient Near Eastern art.
- TRNSGNDR/VHS has a multisensory installation that looks at examine the culture of Baroque art.
ELECTRONIC MUSIC & JAZZ
Date: August 25
- Bonnie Jones adds her own music to Renaissance art.
- Lafayette Gilchrist takes piano jazz to the Egyptian galleries.
