Before a plagarism scandal broke out, the Republican National Convention reacted to the news of the latest verdict in the Baltimore police trials for Freddie Grayโ€™s death.

The first night of the Cleveland convention to nominate Donald Trump was branded as addressing law and order, otherwise known as, โ€œMake America Safe Again.โ€ It came on the day that Lt. Brian Rice was acquitted on charges he faced in connection with Grayโ€™s 2015 death. According to the New York Daily News, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. brought the Baltimore news further into the national spotlight.

โ€œThere is some good news out of Baltimore, Maryland, as Lt. Brian Rice was acquitted on all charges,โ€ he said, drawing applause from the Quicken Loans Arena crowd. He also brought up Marilyn Mosby, calling her an โ€œactivist stateโ€™s attorney.โ€

He further criticized Black Lives Matter, saying that protests in Baltimore and Ferguson amounted to โ€œanarchy.โ€
