In case you were wondering whether you were still supposed to be proud of your hometown team after their post-season bid ended with five very low-scoring games against the Yankees, the answer is โyes.โ
Catcher Matt Wieters, short-stop J.J. Hardy, and center-fielder Adam Jones were awarded Gold Gloves (voted on by major league managers and coaches) for fielding excellence. Thatโs more Gold Gloves than any other team in the league. World Series winners the San Francisco Giants didnโt get any.
(I wonder if the Yankees were happy to see the Oriolesโ fielding honored like that. It takes some of the blame away from their sluggers for struggling to get on base.)
Anyway, take that as a consolation while we wait for next season.
