34th Street in Hampden

It’s a good thing that the Christmas lights on Hampden’s 34th Street came on this year despite some residents threatening to go dark after a string of crimes in the area. They’re just about to raise their profile… in Japan.

The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) is producing a short documentary on the over-the-top lighting display for one of their documentary series. Field producer Jinn Nishimura told the Baltimore Sun that he saw “community spirit” in the months they’ve spent gathering information and filming.

“This street just stands out,” he said. “It’s not like any other neighborhood in Baltimore.”
