Baltimore has been lighting up the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon for 44 years now. That’s almost half a century that Baltimoreans have been gathering to welcome the holiday season right in the heart of the city. This year, the holiday tradition has never looked so spectacular.
On Thursday, December 3rd, be sure to head down to the monument with the whole family for an incredible evening of merriment, including food, drinks, live entertainment, and so much more. Hosted by the Downtown Parrtnership, this year’s monument lighting features dynamite performers, including the Morgan State University Choir, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the Lethal Ladies of Bliss step squad.
The little ones will want to spend plenty of time at the Chick-Fil-A Inner Harbor Kid’s Corner, where they can make holiday crafts, get their faces painted, and shoot some hoops to win awesome prizes, all starting at 5 p.m. There will also be photo ops with the Orioles’ Bird, the Ravens’ mascot Poe, and of course, the star of the show: Santa. But that’s not all.
The Monument Lighting is a perfect event for families– but it’s not just for kids. Vendors like Zeke’s, The French Kitchen, Slainte Irish Pub, Cazbar, and Gypsy Queen will be on hand to cater to adult palates. There will be vendors galore, with something delicious for everyone. Whether you come for the food, the Santa selfies, the Globetrotters, or just to make sure you get your letter to Santa in the mail, you absolutely must make sure you stay for the main event.
The most dazzling part of the evening is sure to be the much-anticipated fireworks display and laser show. It’s the perfect way to kick off your holiday season– particularly since it’s the region’s longest running holiday tradition. So come welcome the season along with 10,000 of your neighbors (yes, we really will all be there). There’s simply no better way to ring in the season, connect with the community, and feel the holiday love in Baltimore.
The 44th Annual Downtown Partnership Monument Lighting will take place on Thursday, December 3rd from 5 pm-8 pm surrounding the Washington Monument in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.godowntownbaltimore.com.
