Gin Blossoms, the band behind such “MTV Buzz Bin” staples as “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You” and “Til I Hear It From You,” is headlining this year’s Fells Point Fun Festival, organizers announced today.
The free concert is on Oct. 12, the first day of the two-day festival in the waterfront neighborhood.
It almost seems hard to imagine now, but the band’s breakthrough album, “New Miserable Experience”–with its jangly guitars and singer Robin Wilson’s hook-heavy melodic vocals–came out one year after the release of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” ushered in grunge mania.
But Gin Blossoms didn’t really hit the charts or inundate the airwaves until the following year, when “Hey Jealousy” found a massive audience with the help of MTV. Three other songs off the album charted, and the band followed it up with another hit album, “Congratulations…I’m Sorry.”
Although the group broke up in 1997, they returned in 2001 and have released three albums since, including last year’s “Mixed Reality.”
The street festival also features food, vendors, additional live music acts and, of course, all your favorite Fells Point shops, eateries an bars.
