Gin Blossoms, the band behind such โ€œMTV Buzz Binโ€ staples as โ€œHey Jealousy,โ€ โ€œFound Out About Youโ€ and โ€œTil I Hear It From You,โ€ is headlining this yearโ€™s Fells Point Fun Festival, organizers announced today.

The free concert is on Oct. 12, the first day of the two-day festival in the waterfront neighborhood.

It almost seems hard to imagine now, but the bandโ€™s breakthrough album, โ€œNew Miserable Experienceโ€โ€“with its jangly guitars and singer Robin Wilsonโ€™s hook-heavy melodic vocalsโ€“came out one year after the release of Nirvanaโ€™s โ€œNevermindโ€ ushered in grunge mania.

But Gin Blossoms didnโ€™t really hit the charts or inundate the airwaves until the following year, when โ€œHey Jealousyโ€ found a massive audience with the help of MTV. Three other songs off the album charted, and the band followed it up with another hit album, โ€œCongratulationsโ€ฆIโ€™m Sorry.โ€

Although the group broke up in 1997, they returned in 2001 and have released three albums since, including last yearโ€™s โ€œMixed Reality.โ€

The street festival also features food, vendors, additional live music acts and, of course, all your favorite Fells Point shops, eateries an bars.
