So long, Mount Vernon Marketplace.

Operators of the 10-year-old food hall at 520 Park Ave. announced on social media that the marketplace will close permanently at the end of the month.

โ€œWe are saddened to announce that, after 10 years, the Mount Vernon Marketplace will be closing its doors on August 31st,โ€ their message said. โ€œLike many businesses, we faced significant challenges in the wake of COVID, including changes in work schedules, a dramatic loss of daytime foot traffic, and increased operating costs. Despite our best efforts over the past few years, we were unable to recover to economically sustainable pre-pandemic levels.โ€

Located at the base of a former Hochschild, Kohn & Co. warehouse with apartments above, the marketplace had more than a dozen food vendors after it opened in October of 2015, but the number has dropped to just a handful in recent months.

Owners of the building, an entity listed in land records as 520 Park Avenue Business Trust, said in the closing announcement that they wonโ€™t let the space remain vacant.

โ€œWe extend our heartfelt thanks to our tenants, customers, and the entire Mount Vernon community for their support and the wonderful memories weโ€™ve shared together,โ€ they said. โ€œWhile this chapter is coming to a close, we remain committed to the community and are actively exploring new ways to reimagine and reactivate the space for the future.โ€
