The Baltimore Sun will stop publishing b on August 27, according to an internal memo first published in City Paper. A free weekly newspaper launched in 2008, b aimed for “the younger, more casual” reader that wouldn’t go so far as to pay for a paper.
The memo from publisher Tim Ryan cited overlap with other Baltimore Sun Media Group offerings as the reason for shutting down b. BSMG also owns City Paper, and publishes the WKND section in the Sun. Despite the overall loss of readeres and advertisers in print, the site remains profitable, Ryan said.
There was no immediate word on what will happen to the staff that produces the paper and corresponding b the site.
