The loss of a pet can hit just as hard as the loss of a family member. With a ceremony this weekend, the Baltimore Humane Society is looking to provide a space for grief and celebration of petsโ€™ lives.

The National Pet Memorial Day observance will be held at the Societyโ€™s Memorial Park (1601 Nicodemus Rd., Reisterstown) at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The service will include flutes playing under a canopy of trees, and speakers will address grief and guilt. The service also includes a flower ceremony for owners to commemorate their pets.

All members of the public are invited, and attendees remembering the loss of a pet are invited to bring a photo for remembrance.

Stephen Babcock is the editor of Technical.ly Baltimore and an editor-at-large of Baltimore Fishbowl.
