Baltimore will be one of the first cities in the world to launch LimeBike, the Lime companyโs newest e-bike model, as an additional method of eco-friendly transportation for city residents.
Lime plans to launch more than 10,000 LimeGliders and LimeBikes in around a dozen cities over Europe and North America soon.
In the next few weeks, Baltimore residents will see LimeBikes, as the city will deploy a fleet of 200 e-bikes to promote accessibility for citizens and visitors alike, Mayor Brandon M. Scott and Lime company officials announced Friday.
“The arrival of Lime’s new LimeBike marks another step forward for sustainable transportation in Baltimore, and we are proud they chose our city for its debut,” Scott said. “With over 2.1 million trips taken on dockless vehicles in the last 12 months, proving that micromobility is an integral part of our transportation infrastructure, we are confident that this new model will increase ridership and use of sustainable transportation in the City.”
Limeโs mission is to expand reliable, inclusive, and sustainable transportation for city-dwellers. The company chose Baltimore to be one of the first cities in the country to officially launch the LimeBike. The cityโs solid investments in new infrastructure, including protected bike lanes, designated parking, and safer streets, all contributed to Limeโs decision.
“Making dockless vehicles convenient and accessible to all Baltimore residents is a top priority of our shared mobility program,” said Veronica McBeth, director of Baltimore City Department of Transportation. “Since many residents prefer seated options, we commend Lime for dramatically increasing the number of e-bikes available in our city and for choosing Baltimore to debut their new LimeBike, designed to make micromobility more accessible for women, older riders, and commuters.”
The LimeBike is made for riders who might have a hard time pedaling for long periods of time, and for those looking for a more comfortable two-wheeled option. LimeBikes can go longer distances and help make car-free mobility a more feasible option for many. The launch of these e-bikes is part of Limeโs broader investment in Baltimore for 2025, including fleet growth, new technology, improved safety, cleanliness, and better rider experience.
“Baltimore is already a leading micromobility city in North America, we see even greater potential to expand access through our thoughtful investments in infrastructure and inclusive vehicle design,โ said Erika Duthely, Director of Government Relations at Lime. โWith the launch of LimeBike, we’re focused on making micromobility more accessible for a broader range of riders in Baltimore, especially women and older adults, while helping to close transit gaps across the city. We’re grateful to the city for its embrace of sustainable transportation and we look forward to continuing to deepen the partnership we have built together over the years, helping Baltimore residents get where they need to go safely, equitably, and courteously.”
Lime began its partnership with Baltimore in 2017, and riders have taken over 3.7 million rides here, covering more than 5 million miles. The demand for micromobility has only increased and an average of more than 65% of all shared e-mobility trips in Baltimore were taken on Lime vehicles this year. In 2025 so far, Baltimore riders have taken a total of 428,008 e-scooter trips and 78,889 e-bike trips, and e-bike usage has nearly doubled since 2024 in just the first five months of 2025.
“During our initial pilots last year, it was clear that the LimeBike earned the love of our riders, with people returning to them frequently for local travel,” said Joe Kraus, president at Lime. “We’re so excited to take our next step with these vehicles and bring them to more cities this spring. The LimeBike makes strides in offering a convenient and inclusive experience to a wider number of riders, while sacrificing nothing in the joy all Lime vehicles inspire.”
To use a LimeBike or LimeScooter a rider must download the Lime app, which is available in both the Apple Store and Google Play Store. The rider will need to create an account, though they wonโt be charged until they use a vehicle. The app tells the person where the nearest available LimeBike or LimeScooter is located.
