Baltimore motorists should look out for road closures and traffic changes ahead of a busy weekend of events throughout the city.
Graffiti removal
Temporary lane closures were implemented Thursday along part of the northbound Jones Falls Expressway to accommodate graffiti removal. The right lane of the JFX will be closed between Falls Road and Cold Spring Lane through 11 p.m. Sunday.
Ukrainian Festival
During the 50th annual Ukrainian Festival this weekend, area roads will be closed through 10 p.m. Sunday, with parking restrictions and detours in effect. Affected roads include Montford Avenue between Eastern Avenue and Fleet Street, as well as Montford Avenue at Pfister Court.
Star-Spangled Banner Weekend Parade
On Friday, the Star-Spangled Banner Weekend Parade will kick off at 7 p.m. In preparation for the event, be aware of the following traffic modifications from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday:
- Hull Street will be closed from 1000 Hull St. to Fort Avenue
- Eastbound Fort Avenue will be closed from Hull Street to Fort McHenry
Expect traffic stops near the parade area. Otherwise, motorists who want to avoid delays should use alternate routes or travel before or after the event.
The Charm City Circulator’s Banner Route will be affected during this event. Riders can receive up-to-date information by visiting the Circulator website or downloading the Tripshot app.
Springboks vs. All Blacks rugby match
Baltimore will welcome two rugby rivals to compete against one another at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday: the Springboks of South Africa and the All Blacks of New Zealand. Traffic modification will be in effect around the stadium for the rugby match beginning at 5 p.m.
Traffic will be heavy, parking will be limited, and crowds will be coming out in full force around the stadium. So transportation officials are encouraging those traveling downtown to allow extra travel time and to use public transportation where possible, including the MTA MARC Train, Light Rail, Metro Subway, local bus routes, and Baltimore’s free Charm City Circulator. MTA patrons can plan their trip at mta.maryland.gov
The following roads and lanes will be closed starting around noon Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday:
- The northbound Russell Street Service Drive alongside M&T Bank Stadium will be closed between West and Hamburg Streets prior to and during the event.
- The Hamburg Street Bridge will be temporarily closed between Leadenhall and Paca Streets for event ingress. Once the event begins, the closures will be removed until just before the event ends.
- The Ostend Street Bridge will be temporarily closed between Sharp and Warner Streets for event ingress. Once the event begins, the closures will be removed until just before the event ends.
- A special traffic pattern will be temporarily installed along Warner Street between the Ostend Street Bridge and Stockholm Street for event ingress and railroad crossings.
- Special traffic patterns will be installed along Warner Street, Alluvion Street, Worcester Street, and Bayard Street for egress near the end of the event.
- Hamburg Street will be closed between Hanover and Charles Streets near the end of the event.
- No southbound travel will be permitted along Hanover Street between Henrietta and Hamburg Streets near the end of the event. All traffic will be diverted onto Henrietta Street for east or westbound travel.
Fans who are driving to the match or other downtown events should look out for all posted parking restrictions and residential permit parking (RPP) regulations, which will be strictly enforced. Vehicles parked illegally, especially in RPP zones, will be ticketed and towed. If your vehicle gets towed, call 311 or 443-263-2220 for assistance locating it.
Rugby match attendees should use commercial garages and surface lots north of the stadium and avoid parking in surrounding neighborhoods. If you do not have an official stadium parking pass, transportation officials strongly advise planning ahead to secure off-site commercial parking.
Construction
Construction is causing Warner Street to be closed between Worcester and West Ostend streets. A special traffic pattern will be implemented along Warner Street for rugby fans entering and leaving M&T Bank Stadium. There will also be a one-way ingress (northbound) and egress (southbound) lane on Warner Street, along with a pedestrian walkway.
Baltimore Farmers’ Market
Baltimore Farmers’ Market takes place this Sunday under the Jones Falls Expressway along Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets.
From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, the following streets and lanes will be closed for the market:
- Holliday Street will be closed from East Pleasant to East Saratoga streets
- Pleasant Street will be closed at Holliday Street
- Hillen Street’s center lane will be closed between Front Street and Fallsway
