Baltimore residents can have a say in the search for Baltimore City Public Schools’ next chief executive officer by participating in a telephone town hall Monday night, or six upcoming community forums.

Monday’s telephone town hall will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., when the public can call in to (855) 756 -7520, Ext. 125 847#.

Mayor Brandon Scott, school board chair Robert Salley, and school board vice chair Ashiah Parker will attend the town hall.

During this hour, community members are encouraged to share what traits they would like City Schools’ next CEO to possess. They will also be able to learn more about the search process.

The town hall event will be followed by six community forums across Baltimore City. The dates, times, and locations of those forums are as follows:

The CEO search community forums schedule is outlined below:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Digital Harbor High School
  • Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Patterson High School
  • Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute

Chicago-based consulting firm Alma Advisory Group has been selected to help with identifying and choosing City Schools’ next CEO. This individual will succeed current CEO Sonja Santelises, whose contract will end June 30, 2026.

Alma Advisory Group and the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners will use input from these events to develop a candidate profile based on community members’ desired traits, experiences, and priorities for a new CEO.

That candidate profile is slated to launch by the end of October 2025.

The school district’s next leader is scheduled to start their term on July 1, 2026.
