After changing ownership and with renovations planned, Baltimore’s 8 x 10 music venue will reopen in October with a mix of local and nationally touring acts.
The rock club’s new owners announced their reopening plans, show calendar, and fundraising campaign on Monday, Aug. 10 (naturally, 8/10).
The 8 x 10 is raising funds for upgrades to the building and business, including for interior and exterior signage, better sounds and visual systems, and updated layouts for the bar, sightlines, bathrooms, and overall room flow.
Donors will receive perks based on their contributions, including access to The 8X10 Revival Campaign Donor Party for the highest donor level as well as 10 randomly selected supporters who donate $50. The party on Oct. 8 will feature a performance by Cris Jacobs & Friends featuring George Porter Jr. (of The Meters), Ivan Neville, Steve Kimock and more.
Located at 10 E. Cross St. in Federal Hill, the 8 x 10 can hold up to 300 people. Last week, the property and business were officially sold to new owners.
Dave Rather, who was the property’s owner before the sale, will remain onboard. He is joined by new owners: Baltimore musician Cris Jacobs and the Philadelphia-based live music entertainment group Rising Sun Presents, headed by Chris Perella.
“I’m proud to say that I’ve most likely played on the 8 X 10 stage more than anyone,” Jacobs said last week. “I’ve seen how special that club is to myself and the Baltimore music community. To be able to carry on its legacy and partner up with such a great team is a true honor.”
The venue’s show calendar will kick off Oct. 9 with a performance by the Tom Hamilton Band (of JRAD) and Illiterate Light.
