On a Saturday near the end of March in 2019, kites took over the sky above Patterson Park at the Big Baltimore Kite Fest.
This spring, the festival will return to Patterson Park and the event’s host, Creative Alliance, is looking for Baltimore artists and community groups to create new kites to fly.

The group is seeking kite designs that either “exemplify the artist’s cultural kite tradition or celebrate their creativity,” according to the RFP. The kites should be “wind-worthy and ready to fly” in the festival on April 2, the form says.
Creative Alliance will provide funding on a sliding scale of $50, $100, and $250 to support artists fees and materials. Interested artists must submit a letter of interest and kite design by March 17, according to an Instagram post by Creative Alliance.
Final selection will be decided by the Creative Alliance staff.
