Don’t look now, but Baltimore is taking some steps toward becoming a soccer town.
According to the Washington Post, an amateur team called Christos FC from Baltimore rarely practices. But they scored an upset against a professional team from Richmond this week.
Not only do we have good players, but we like to watch, too. The Post also reports that the Baltimore area also overtook DC for the number 1 US TV ratings for the Premier League.
With these elements in place, rumors about the city getting a professional team of our own more justified. The USL, which is a step below MLS, said last week that it’s “almost certain” that Baltimore will get an expansion team, and with it a new stadium. Now all we need is a face of the sport. The local businesspeople backing the effort, however, have yet to reveal themselves.
