Phone sex line confused for BPD complaint number

If you were to dial the number for the Baltimore Police Department’s complaint line, you’d probably expect to be connected to a no-nonsense internal affairs detective ready to hear your grievance. In any case, you’d never imagine you’d hear a recorded greeting say, “Welcome to America’s hottest talk line. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk with you.”

But that’s exactly what you would have gotten if you’d tried BPD’s toll-free internal investigations hotline this week. It’s unclear exactly how long the phone sex number has been mistakenly listed on the police department’s Web site, but the Baltimore Sun noted that the page “is dated April 28, 2008 at 4:24 a.m. but has a note at the bottom that it was updated on Dec. 18, 2012 at 11:39 p.m.” So it’s possible we’ve had some very bored internal affairs detectives for quite some time.

Sounds lonely. Hey, if they’re really in need of someone to talk to, I just heard about this one phone sex line…

Despite referring Baltimore residents with complaints about officers and dispatchers to “America’s hottest talk line” for who knows how long, police spokesman Sgt. Jarron Jackson wanted you to know that “[p]roviding a clear avenue for our citizens to report matters of concern to our internal affairs division has always been a priority to our department. We are currently investigating the cause of this issue.”
