If last year’s pro-Ben Carson rap radio spot had you scratching your head, you weren’t the only one.
Speaking at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Carson himself disavowed the ad, assuring the audience he was “horrified” when he finally heard it.
“I did not approve that, and when it came out I said, why did you put that out? What are you thinking?” Carson said.
(The conservative political blog Hot Air suggested that if Carson’s claim as true, then the ad is fraudulent, seeing as it ends with the standard “I’m Ben Carson and I approve this message” stamp.)
Carson went on: “It was done by people who have no concept of the black community and what they were doing.”
In a way it’s too bad that Carson is now distancing himself from the spot. With his fondness for bad science, he could have used the rap song to align himself with rapper and recent flat-earth truther B.o.B.
