Marco Rubio may have earned a Golden Raspberry at Saturday night’s Republican presidential debate when he repeated a canned talking point like a malfunctioning robot, but Ben Carson initiated a cascade of cringe comedy when he failed to take his place on stage after his name was called.
Carson’s goof — which immediately paid off in an awkward zoom in on the immobile candidate — seemed to confuse Donald Trump. The two hopefuls, physically embodying their status as political outsiders, stood side by side in the wings as the other candidates hit their cues on time.
(That is, except for poor Ohio Gov. John Kasich. The moderators didn’t even realize he was missing until on-the-ball New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie pointed it out to them.)
