Everything’s looking up for the BSA’s holiday show: New place, partnerships and prices, too.
For its annual production of The Nutcracker, the Baltimore School for the Arts has teamed with two other Baltimore cultural organizations: the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Maryland Institute College of Art. The show will also upgrade to the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric. The classic holiday ballet will feature more than 120 dancers from BSA, its TWIGS program, and its faculty and friends (party scene only!); BSO musicians; and new backdrops painted by MICA students.
This year, the lowest single-buy ticket appears to be $28, not bad considering the venue and the addition of BSO musicians. But beware: the Ticketmaster fee adds in $12.35 per ticket. Yikes. Which is why I was so happy to receive this insider tip directly from a BSO rep whom I queried in distress: Folks that order their tickets through the BSO can purchase tickets at a lower service charge. The ticket office # is (410) 783-8000.
Another money-saving option: for groups associated with the BSA, the BSO’s group sales team is offering a special flat rate of $20* for adults and $10* for children for the Dec 21 (Friday) matinee and evening performances (*each case a modest $3 Ticketmaster fee applies). Groups must consist of 15 or more people. Interested parties can contact the BSO’s groups sales office at (410) 783-8170.
