A 17-year-old from Carroll County was charged in the rape of a 9-year-old girl at the Maryland State Fair, according to Baltimore County police. Jonathan Fleming is being charged as an adult in connection with the case.
Fleming’s family and the girl’s family often travel to fairs together. They were together at the Maryland State fairgrounds on Thursday preparing for this year’s event. The girl told police that Fleming touched her inappropriately in the Cow Palace, then took her to the Swine Barn and a trailer owned by Fleming’s family. Over the course of 15-20 minutes, Fleming performed various sex acts on the girl.
“The girl’s father notified police after being warned by a farmer who became concerned when he saw Fleming and the girl at the Swine Barn,” police said.
Fleming is being charged as an adult, and was held on $500,000 bond.
Further investigation revealed that Fleming has been sexually abusing the girl since she was about three years old, with other incidents occurring at various fairs in Maryland and beyond over the last three years.
