Checkerspot Brewing will have two new lagers to welcome the Baltimore Oriolesโ€™ Opening Day.

The first is called Birdland Pale Ale. The second was originally set to be named Adios Angelos, a nod to the familyโ€™s sale of a majority stake in the team.

But the death of owner Peter Angelos over the weekend, at the age of 94, gave the beer’s name a new, unintended meaning. Checkerspot Brewing will no longer use the name Adios Angelos, founder Judy Neff told Baltimore Fishbowl.

โ€œWe are going to change it – the name was only intended to embody the excitement felt here in Baltimore by the new forthcoming ownership and how well the team is doing and definitely nothing to do with Peter passing away,โ€ Neff said in an email.

The Pigtown brewery has not decided on a new name for the lager, but Neff said one will be in place by Thursdayโ€™s season opener when the Orioles will host the Los Angeles Angels at 3:05 p.m.

Neff said the change was made โ€œ…out of respect for his family and everything he has done with the amazing Oโ€™s team over so many years.โ€ย

The yet-to-be-named beer will be a Mexican lager, according to The Baltimore Banner.

In other Orioles alcohol news, the team announced Monday morning that National Bohemian, popularly called Natty Boh, will return to Camden Yards this season.

Itโ€™s the first time since 2016 that the team will sell Natty Boh inside the ballpark.
