Dan Rodricks is back on the airwaves. The former host of Midday on WYPR is now helming a Baltimore Sun-produced podcast, which launched on Monday.
The podcast, called “Roughly Speaking,” is set to run “about three times a week.” In Midday fashion, Rodricks looks to bring in interview subjects as well as journalists and commentators to dig into what’s happening.
Rodricks’ first episode, which runs about 90 minutes features the Baltimore Sun’s Justin George discussing his inside look at the Baltimore police department’s Freddie Gray investigation, as well discussion of politics and the Orioles with more Sun staffers.
Injecting some celebrity into the first episode, he closes with an interview with John Waters to mark the date of Divine’s birthday. Among the things we learned: Boy George has a huge Divine tattoo.
Rodricks, a longtime Baltimore Sun columnist, left WYPR at the beginning of the month. Former Maryland Morning host Sheila Kast took his place on the noon hour. Rodricks said the podcast was among additional responsibilities he would take on at the Baltimore Sun.
