Dan Rodricks is back on the airwaves. The former host of Midday on WYPR is now helming a Baltimore Sun-produced podcast, which launched on Monday.
The podcast, called โRoughly Speaking,โ is set to run โabout three times a week.โ In Midday fashion, Rodricks looks to bring in interview subjects as well as journalists and commentators to dig into whatโs happening.
Rodricksโ first episode, which runs about 90 minutes features the Baltimore Sunโs Justin George discussing his inside look at the Baltimore police departmentโs Freddie Gray investigation, as well discussion of politics and the Orioles with more Sun staffers.
Injecting some celebrity into the first episode, he closes with an interview with John Waters to mark the date of Divineโs birthday. Among the things we learned: Boy George has a huge Divine tattoo.
Rodricks, a longtime Baltimore Sun columnist, left WYPR at the beginning of the month. Former Maryland Morning host Sheila Kast took his place on the noon hour. Rodricks said the podcast was among additional responsibilities he would take on at the Baltimore Sun.

Best wishes on your new venture. Looking forward to hearing your podcasts. Ron Israel
As a longtime :”Dan Fan” I was mystified and saddened by his seemingly sudden disappearance from NPR’s noon show. Leaves a gap in the day – but glad to hear he is back in biz. Wonder when his shows will air – and wishing him the best.
