Hot House: 2303 Crest Road, Baltimore 21209

Stone hardscaping, with mature plantings, patio, detached one car garage with parking pad, central a/c: $387,900
What: On a sunny Sunday, houses in Baltimore were moving fast, and this one was getting a ton of interest. (Since this was posted, the house has sold.) Perched on a rise above a pleasant street in Mt. Washington, the cottage is not large, but it’s long on curb appeal. It’s also in move-in condition and the price is right. From the street, shallow stone stairs wind up a small garden to the front door. Arched windows and doors, in addition to the steeply pitched roof, lend the house a handmade feeling and set the English village mood – this is where Miss Marple would live in Baltimore. One side of the house is a lovely sunroom with a brick tiled floor and those arched windows on all sides. The front door opens into the good-size living room, with fireplace and french doors to the sunroom. (The fireplace has a strangely modern mantel which is a bit jarring.) The living room opens into the dining room and around to the kitchen. Kitchen has new appliances, but is not eat-in. Doors open to the nice brick patio. Three bedrooms upstairs lead off a small landing. There is no master suite, all the bedrooms share the one full bath. All have decent closets and built in storage. A house that makes you want to simplify your life.
Where: Crest Road is a winding street a few blocks from Western Run Park, and a short drive to Mt. Washington Village, with its highly rated public school, nearby Whole Foods, Mt. Washington Tavern, shops and restaurants. Access to downtown via Light Rail stop. It’s a safe, friendly and diverse neighborhood, where people tend to stay a long time. Driving on E. Northern Parkway past Pimlico racetrack, take a right onto Greenspring Avenue. Crest Road is about a half mile on your right.
Why: Just really, really cute.
Why Not: No eat-in kitchen. And just enough yard for one gardener, probably not two.
Would Suit: Small family of romantics, who can handle a few stairs.
NB: Basement is dry, and could be finished to family room standard.
Great work Cynthia! Hot House is my favorite section on fishbowl, keep it up!
Hey, thanks Becca — so nice to hear.
