Beloved Baltimore restaurant, Ekiben will host its first-ever Ekiben Night Market on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm at its Hampden location.

The event will bring together some of the townโ€™s best-celebrated chefs and restaurants, including Blacksauce Kitchen, Cafรฉ Dear Leon, Nana, and Pho Bac. Attendees will enjoy fare from these and many other restaurants in one place. The full list of vendors can be found on the eventโ€™s website.

Co-founders Ephrem Abebe and Steve Chu have been wanting to channel the night markets theyโ€™ve visited abroad in Taiwan and Ethiopia into a curated event of their first Ekiben Night Market. In a statement announcing the event, Chu describes wanting to not only honor the tradition of Taiwanese night markets but celebrate the Baltimore chefs and restaurants that โ€œhave become like family to him and Abebeโ€ since they founded Ekiben nearly ten years ago.

โ€œThe Night Market is our way of showcasing the vibrant culinary scene in Baltimore while also sharing what we love about night markets in other parts of the worldโ€”especially those in Taiwan and Ethiopia,โ€ Chu said. โ€œCharm City Night Market was an incredible trailblazer for this type of event in Baltimore, and weโ€™re excited about offering Ekibenโ€™s own unique interpretation of what a night market can be.”

โ€œThe list of restaurants and chefs whoโ€™ve agreed to join us is really incredibleโ€“and I canโ€™t believe theyโ€™re all going to be in the same place at the same time,โ€ said Abebe. โ€œBut this is also about more than the food. Itโ€™s about community and creating a space where people can come together to enjoy great company and culture. Everyone is welcome, and we canโ€™t wait to share this unique experience with Baltimore.โ€

VIP tickets have sold out, though general admission tickets are still available. Each ticket comes with a drink (cocktail, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be available). Food will be available for purchase from individual vendors.

The event is family-friendly, and children under 10 are admitted for free.
