Now in its 103rd year, Wockenfuss Candies has established itself as a local institution, with nine retail locations in the state and a successful small business in the face of chocolate conglomerates like Hershey’s and Nestlé. However, the local confectioner has only been offering very limited tours of its Harford Road factory near the city-county line for the last six years.

Saturday will be another rare day when Wockenfuss opens its doors. Willy Wonka’s grand factory it is not, but anyone who stops by will still have fun seeing the workers operating the machines that make the delicious chocolate and other sweets. Wockenfuss will be handing out free samples and raffling off candy. Of course, you can always buy some, too, and you’ll probably want to after seeing all that chocolate on the assembly line.

Free, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Wockenfuss Candies, 6831 Harford Road, (410) 483-4414, wockenfusscandies.com.
