Everyman Theatre and Highwire Improv are teaming up to offer improv classes for Baltimore youth and adults.
The Everyman Education department is adding two classes to its schedule as part of the collaboration with Highwire Improv. Those classes include Middle School Comedy Club and Adult Improv, both involving learning through sketch-comedy and improvisation games.
“The Everyman Education Department is excited to partner with one of our fellow Baltimore-built arts organizations,” said Joseph Ritsch, interim director of education for Everyman Theatre, in a statement. “This partnership with Highwire Improv aligns with Everyman’s core values of serving the community with accessible equitable programming that gives all our students the opportunity to tell their stories.”
In Middle School Comedy Club, students will learn from teaching artist Hannah Jeffrey and will curate an improvised comedy show, which they will perform for family and friends. The class will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays from Sept. 21 through Nov. 16. It is open to students in grades 6-8, and costs $325. To participate, students must register by Sept. 14.
Teaching artist Tashika Campbell will lead the Adult Improv class, which is dedicated to students age 18 and older. The 8-session class will be held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 26 through Nov. 14. The class costs $375 and the deadline to register is Sept. 16.
“Highwire Improv is thrilled to partner with Everyman Theatre on this education initiative,” said Barry Wright, Highwire Improv Board President, in a statement. “Our organizations share a vision to deliver transformative and accessible education programs to the community, and the opportunity for Highwire Improv to teach classes at Everyman Theatre will provide new opportunities for residents to connect, collaborate, and create art together.”
All classes will be held at Everyman Theatre. Interested participants can register for classes at everymantheatre.org/education
