One Baltimore-area auto dealer is to shed the local, family-owned label in its list of commercial credentials. Valley Motors Auto Group dealerships will be acquired by a national retailer that has been buying up local dealerships on the East Coast.
The acquisition deal, which is not yet closed, will put the Valley Motors Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Subaru dealerships in Cockeysville under ownership of AutoNation, a publicly-traded Ft. Lauderdale company that owns about 250 dealerships. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Valley Motors President Charles Fenwick told the Baltimore Business Journal that he expects most of the company’s 170 employees to be retained.
Opened in 1961, Valley Motors started as a Volkswagen dealership before expanding to its current quartet of stores at 9800 York Rd.
