Oprah Winfrey

Ms. Winfrey learned from friends in Baltimore about the great work Associated Black Charities is doing, and agreed intentionally to support the cause by being a guest at Equity First. She and Diane Bell-McKoy will discuss her life-changing experiences from her time in Baltimore, as well as broader experiences as it relates to philanthropy, authentic relationships, and the challenges of systemic racism. Reflecting on ABC’s mission, Ms. Winfrey shared, “I understand what it is to try to enhance, to compensate, to try and make up for all of the inequities that have been systemically thrown upon people and burdened people…and this is God’s work.”

ABC’s Equity First | a speaker series consists of interviews with key leaders, from Baltimore and across the nation, who recognize that sustainable change for people of color will only come when structural and institutional barriers are replaced with equitable policies, practices, and institutions. Invited speakers are those who have put equity first in their careers and their passions. At the time of this release the event sponsors include Wells Fargo and CareFirst as Title Event Sponsors, Comcast and Under Armour Foundation as Presenting Sponsors, Bank of America, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Cordish Co. as Gold Sponsors, and Afro News as exclusive Media Sponsor for ABC.
