The Emerging Technology Center has chosen five early-stage startups to participate in its accelerator program, AccelerateBaltimore.

The startups run the gamut of products and services, from a dating app that awards cash prizes to successful matchmakers to the next Airbnb for private yachts and jet skis.

Each startup will participate in a 13-week training program run by this yearโ€™s program director, Brendan McAdams, co-founder of healthcare startup Expertscape and managing director of Kiinetics.

The startups will also each receive $50,000 in seed funding from the Abell Foundation.

The participants were selected out of 110 applicants in a competitive application process

The five startups are:

6DGRS, a dating app that emphasizes โ€œfriends over algorithms,โ€ matching users with quality, vetted singles. The app leverages the userโ€™s existing network and rewards successful โ€œmatchmakersโ€ with cash prizes.

BUKU, which aims to be the next Uber or Airbnb for yachts and water toys, connects users with licensed captains and boat owners to give them access to private yachts, jet skis, and other water experiences.

G-Haven eSports, a social impact eSports organization, seeks to empower gamers to use their gaming passions for social good.

impathi, a platform that uses AI and deep learning to identify patients who are eligible for hospice early on in their disease progression. The platform partners with healthcare and hospice providers and helps patients navigate their end-of-life journey.

Opal HTM, Inc. seeks to transform medical equipment management and maintenance. It uses a system of wireless sensors to track where, when, and how often medical equipment is used to provide users with real-time data. The data can then be used to help hospital staff reduce equipment-related expenses.
