An armed man held four people hostage in a Carroll Park Burger King for hours before releasing some of the hostages and eventually surrendering Sunday evening.
According to reporting from the Baltimore Sun, the unidentified man, who is suspected of rape, led police on a chase across the west side of the city when they attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant sometime around 11 a.m. The chase ended in a two-vehicle crash. The other driver reportedly “sustained minor injuries.”
The suspect then ran into a Burger King and barricaded himself with four hostages: a 67-year-old customer, a 17-year-old employee, a 25-year-old employee, and 7-year-old who, according to police, is a relative of an employee.
Over the course of a standoff that lasted five and a half hours, police convinced the man to release one and then another hostage and then finally convinced the suspect to come out of the Burger King with his hands up.
