Friends School of Baltimore recently announced the creation of the Blackburn Merit Award. The merit award is made possible by generous donors who believe strongly in Friends’ mission to provide an extraordinary education for students of all genders. This award is named for Louisa Powell Blackburn, the first woman to hold the position as Head of School at Friends. Blackburn was responsible for founding the Nursery School, which is the forerunner of the current PrePrimary and Lower School.
The Blackburn Award is a $15,000 award for new students applying for the upper elementary grades (4th and 5th). The award can be renewed annually through graduation so long as the student(s) remain(s) in good academic and behavioral standing. Students must demonstrate outstanding scholarship, and commitment to the mission and philosophy of Friends School. Up to three Blackburn Awards will be offered for the 2021-22 school year.
