You know about the fierce spirit of competition that drives the Gilman-McDonogh football rivalry. But do you also know about the spirit of cooperation that unites the two historic rivals?
That cooperation will be on full display on Saturday, October 27, at Gilman. While the teams battle for the 97th time on the gridiron (1 p.m.), the two schools will collaborate off the field during the Gilman/McDonogh Sleep Out for the Homeless Clothing Drive.
Students from both Gilman and McDonogh will work together, at a booth near the Middle School playground, collecting financial donations and articles of clothing from fans attending the game. These donations will support the feeding program at Our Daily Bread Employment Center and provide emergency clothing and prescriptions for the Jobs, Housing and Recovery Housing Resource Center.
After the game, students from both schools will transport the items to Our Daily Bread, where they will then participate along with hundreds of Baltimore-area students in the 2nd annual Baltimore Sleep Out for the Homeless. The event is an evening (and overnight) of workshops, activities and service projects focused on the problems and challenges of homelessness.
