Five-year-old Hailey Dawson may just have become the cutest person to ever throw a pitch at an Orioles game (apologies to Jim Palmer).
Dawson was born with Poland syndrome, a rare and congenital birth defect. She uses a prosthetic hand developed by the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and created using cutting-edge 3D printing technology. Dawson used a special orange Orioles-themed hand to toss her pitch at yesterday’s game.
“Ultimately, the goal is not just to have her dream come true, but to expose the hand and that people can get this hand. And it’s available to anybody,” Hailey’s mom said. “It’s so easy, so cheap…I just wanted it to be out there, that, ‘Hey, you can get this.’”
