The Walbrook branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library will have grand reopening ceremonies on June 24 to celebrate its makeover with the Walbrook community it serves.
The West Baltimore neighborhood library has been closed for several months to have a new HVAC system installed, paid for by private donors.
Cosmetic changes and upgrades were made to the computer space inside the branch, with upgraded technology and co-working spaces. Those improvements were paid for with American Rescue Plan funding through the Mayorโs Office of Recovery Programs.
Additional private funding helped refresh paint, carpet, and add new furniture to the Walbrook branch.
The grand reopening ceremonies will be attended by dignitaries like Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Pratt Interim CEO Darcell Graham, and other prominent community members. There will be a ribbon cutting and remarks at the event.
โThe Walbrook branch is a vital hub in the West Baltimore community,โ Graham said. โWe are so thrilled to be able to provide needed upgrades to the library so that children, teens, adults, and families all have a welcoming space where they can work, learn, and play. Iโm thankful to our private donors and the Mayorโs Office of Recovery Programs for making this possible.โ
The Walbrook refresh is the first of several branch improvement projects that will help libraries across Baltimore City over the next two years.
โThe Enoch Pratt Free Library has been serving the Walbrook community for more than 100 years,โ reads the press release. โStarting in 1903, library services in the community began in a streetcar waiting shed and moved to a former church in 1907. The current library building first opened to the public in 1957.โ
The Enoch Pratt Walbrook Branch Grand Reopening will take place on Monday, June 24 at 10:00 am. The branch is located at 3202 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD.
