Baltimore will make the case for why international businesses should invest in our city during the inaugural Baltimore Region Investment Summit on June 27, the Greater Baltimore Committee announced Thursday.
The local event will be a spinoff of the United States Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA Investment Summit, a foreign direct investment conference that aims to attract international businesses to invest in U.S. growth markets.
The Baltimore summit “will serve as a pivotal moment to highlight the wide array of development announcements within the city and throughout the Baltimore region,” according to a news release.
The Maryland Institute College of Art is the tentative location for the summit.
“The Baltimore region joins a short list of highly competitive metropolitan areas, including Miami, Seattle, and Phoenix, with a chance to significantly elevate awareness of the case for investing here,” said Mark Anthony Thomas, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee, in a statement. “We’ve had a tremendous year of announcements that will redefine our regional economy and scale progress in our underserved communities.”
Speakers from some of the region’s top investment and development projects will talk about the Baltimore region’s technology, manufacturing, hospitality, and community redevelopment efforts.
The event will provide the opportunity for potential investors to learn about what Baltimore has to offer, said Dr. Mohan Suntha, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System and chair of the Greater Baltimore Committee.
“The summit will give a global audience an inside look into why the Baltimore region offers so much as a destination for transformative opportunities,” Suntha said in a statement. “Companies and investors will be leaning-in and committing long-term investments making this event a special opportunity to identify partners to be part of key development projects across the region.”
The Greater Baltimore Committee also announced two other events for this year: “Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit” on April 15, and the Greater Baltimore Committee’s 69th Annual Meeting on May 23.
The Scorecard Summit will include global business investment analysis, announcements about local expansions and attractions, and Baltimore regional development activity trends. The Greater Baltimore Committee will also release its Annual Investment Scorecard, which tracks the region’s projects, performance, and ability to bring in investment from the private sector.
At the annual meeting, the Greater Baltimore Committee will release a 10-year economic opportunity plan for the asset and industry growth over the next decade.
